2023 Pinot Nero

Philosophy
Our Nero is a delicate take on the iconic grape so often misunderstood when featured as a powerhouse red in our cool climate region. Intentional work in the cellar allows elegant complexities to shine, unhindered by excessive oak.

Flavor Notes
Refreshing strawberry and cherry flavors are underscored by a toasted, graham cracker-like complexity. Zippy notes of a light balsamic edge complete this vibrant, delicate, and pretty Pinot Noir from younger vines.

Vinification
The fruit was harvested on October 12th, 2023 from Grishaw and neighboring Bella Vista Vineyard on Old Mission Peninsula. Berries were gently destemmed and cold soaked—Bella Vista fruit in open top vessels and Grishaw in a stainless steel tank. Fermentation began quickly and we pressed the grapes six days later to preserve the delicate fruit aromas without excess tannins. Grapes were then pressed and aged in a handful of oak hogshead barrels for one year and four months to build structure and preserve fruit flavor. The finished wine was bottled on February 27th, 2025.

We suggest pairing with miso glazed salmon, gruyere cheese, a classic Traverse City cherry chicken salad on a butter croissant, or a monte cristo sandwich.

Cellaring
This vintage is ready to enjoy now through 2029.
