2016 Trogolodyte Bianco

2016 Trogolodyte Bianco

Varietals: 60% Pinot Bianco, 25% Grüner Veltliner, 15% Sauvignon Blanc
Vineyard: Pinot Bianco from Neeson Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner from Grishaw Vineyard
ABV: 12.0%

Flavor Notes: Winemaker Sean O’Keefe made this wine as a nod to the dry white wine blends of the Friuli region. It is not an aromatic showboat, instead focusing on finesse and structure. This is a great wine for Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio lovers. O’Keefe describes this as a “three person thumb wrestle”: The Pinot Bianco carries the wine with its fruity character; the Grüner Veltliner adds spicy pepper and herbal qualities; and the Sauvignon Blanc ties everything together with texture and hints of exotic fruits.

Pairings: A wide range of foods including seafood and shellfish. This is not a wine that demands your attention, so it may be paired with food or simply appreciated by itself.

Vinification: The varietals were fermented separately, with the Pinot Bianco and Grüner Veltliner in stainless tanks and the Sauvignon Blanc in 1200L Stücks. As soon as fermentation was complete, we combined the wines and allowed them to age on their lees for 8 months before bottling. Here at Mari, we are all about the art of the blend. We believe in taking wines that could stand apart, but instead making something greater than the sum of its parts.

Suggested Cellaring: Lees, oak, and maturation make this perfect to enjoy now through 2020.

Troglodyte: Troglodyte was a term chosen by owner Marty Lagina that means “cave dweller”. Originally a term of derision, we believe it’s amusingly appropriate for how our winemaking team dwells in the Mari wine caves. The Troglodyte line features wines sourced from our six estate vineyards with an intent on balanced blending.
