Varietals: 100% Riesling
Vineyards: Irish and Grishaw
Flavor Notes: Citrus leaning aromas with flavors ranging from a very ripe apple to tangerine and apricot. Floral notes are supported by a mouth-coating texture from lees contact. Winemaker Sean O'Keefe likes textures in wine, and notes that these acids are softer due to a warm 2017 September.
Late Harvest translates to spätlese, which is German for “a special selection of the ripest grapes of the harvest”. In the United States, these wines are usually very sweet, but here at Mari Vineyards we seek balance instead. Although it is a lush Late Harvest with obvious sweetness, it's dryer than most.
“Balance is everything” - Sean O'Keefe
Suggested Pairings: Rieslings go well with anything pork: spicy cajun food, sweet and sour style Asian food, etc. This can also be enjoyed as an after dinner drink amongst friends.
Processing: The grapes were picked at peak ripeness, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and stopped at a cold temperature to preserve residual sugar.
Cellaring Recommendations: Rieslings age well, but do change in character with maturity. Look for the “patina” effect, an evolution of flavors some describe as “petrol”. We recommend drinking now through 2023.
